PROTECT
& BEAUTIFY WITH PARA
TIMBERCARE® WOOD STAINS
With all its attractive qualities,
wood has always been a popular exterior building
material, and that's especially true today. But
wood's natural durability can be destroyed by the
elements. So PARA has developed TIMBERCARE®
---a complete line of top-quality stains that not
only bring out the best in wood, but add the kind
of protection that will ensure maximum durability. |

|
SELECTING STAINS
The final colour a stain
takes on will vary according to the particular
wood surface. Solid colour stains block out all
of the wood's colour to show through, while still
providing protection from the sun and moisture.
Test the colour in an inconspicuous area of the
actual wood being stained before proceeding with
the project. |

PROTECT AGAINST
WATER
Constant moisture
changes affect the cells in wood, resulting in
cracking and splitting. To avoid moisture damage,
wood needs the protective qualities of PARA TIMBERCARE
Wood Stains. With natural and synthetic resins,
such as linseed oil, alkyds and acrylics, PARA
Stains actually stabilize the surface of the wood
and prevent cracking and discoloration. The addition
of an anti-fungal chemical further reduces the
risk of surface mildew growth. |

|
PROTECT AGAINST
SUN
Without protection from the sun's ultra-violet
rays, the fibres of the wood deteriorate, resulting
in cracking and discoloration. PARA's special
formulation of no-fading pigments actually deflect
the sun's harmful rays and protect the wood, thus
preventing cracking, discoloration and other forms
of deterioration. |

THINKING ABOUT
SLAPPING ON A
QUICK COAT OF STAIN? THINK AGAIN.
It's important to properly prepare
the wooden surface for staining. The more time
spent on surface preparation, the better the stain
will perform and the longer it will last. The
manufacturing process for milling timber leaves
a mill glaze on the surface of the wood. In order
for the stain to penetrate deeply into the wood,
sanding is necessary. The image at right shows
water penetrating the surface after sanding (at
front). Behind it, the water remains on the surface
because the wood has not been opened up by sanding. |
